LITTLE MATCH GIRL
Bristol 2017. Together with animator and director Marie Lechevalier, I have been working on the Little Match Girl over half a year using a marionette, cut out shadows, experimenting with lights and textures. We developed the show with the help of the Smoking Puppet Jam where we shared our progression from the first experimentations trough defining shape to the final show.
The Little Match Girl is a 15min piece based on a tale of Hans Christian Anderson using mixed puppetry and shadow puppetry, telling the story of a little girl selling matches in a cold street. The set, made of cardboard and fabric, represents a street corner where she’s lighting matches to warm herself up and sees enchanting dreams through the flame. The little Match Girl is a marionette carved in wood made and puppeteered by me, introducing three poetic scenes of shadow puppetry. Each of them is a different dream about good days: playing under the tree, flying in space, swimming with the fish, being home with her parents.
